Last First Class Day Overwith.
Well, I just got back from my American History class. The prof for this one is Dr. Sallie Middleton. The first thing I noticed about her is she seems to have a slight nervous problem. Always blinking. Not sure why that's important, it just stuck out to me on my first impression. She wasted absolutely no time once we had all submitted personal information sheets, she went straight to lecturing. And boy, did she ever lecture! I have a fairly quick shorthand writing style, but I could barely keep up with the note taking. I even had to leave some of my notes unfinished because she was going so fast. It's kind of funny, you can look at the four--yes, four--pages of notes and watch my handwriting slowly go from decent to terrible. I actually slowed it down a bit at the end because I could kind of start to pick out what would be more important to remember. In any case, this should be a fairly easy class.
There are quizzes every week, but that shouldn't be a problem. She wants 3 papers written this semester. I was kind of amused how she defined "short" as being 4-5 pages. I guess that's just how the collegiate world is. So that's more books I'm expected to buy. Well I'm going to just go to the local library and get them for free. I don't need to be owning these books for the rest of my life.
She's a little eccentric about some things. For instance, she thinks it would be just great if we would make a video of us telling the Thanksgiving story to family members or other people. I wasn't too thrilled about that until she mentioned it would be worth extra credit. So I guess I may have to un-dignify myself and look into making something. Also when she was talking about the European peasants and how they celebrated their Fall harvests, the would be cooking food and dancing. She made a few comments on how she didn't think we'd be doing too much craziness in class around the holidays because she would be too busy "dancing and cooking a turkey." That may not be a direct quote, but she was definitely trying to relate her life to the peasants she was just talking about. That was a little weird. I laughed inside.
This class will probably require the most effort out of all my classes, at least from a studying standpoint. I'll be ok though I think. The girl sitting beside me had taken a class from her before and gave me some inside information, so I should do just fine.
After a lot of looking around this morning at various autoparts stores, I couldn't seem to find the oil drain plug for my oil pan. It was then that a brilliant idea hit me. Go to the Dodge Dealership. I felt kind of stupid after that. Well they had it for a cheap $4.95, so armed with that, I went over to Wal-Mart and finally got my oil changed. No one had the thermostat though. I don't really care enough to order it online though, so that's not going to happen for a while.
I did make some very good progress on an apartment today. There is a 1 bedroom unit reserved for me at Lexford Apartments. It should be fairly decent. Only $650 + utilities. All I have to do now is get my job situation sorted out so I can prove that I have an income, then get renter's insurance set up(required by Lex Apts) and I'll be all ready to move in! So that's exciting. Now if those managers would hurry up and call me back, I'd be in great shape.
All in all a very good day today! The rest of my week and weekend is wide open for anything at all since I have no more classes and barring a call tomorrow, I probably won't get a call from any employers on the weekend. So I guess I'll have to find something to do.
See you next time!

Hey now, you do have something more going on this weekend. Don't forget dinner Friday night with we 8 adult Huff's that are here thanks to you and Mom. What could be more exciting than that?!?! :-)
Now that four of the six Huff siblings live in FL we may have to make some kind of family rule about having holidays where the majority lives - what do you think?
Good call! I wasn't aware of that little gathering until just recently. Should be a great time!
I agree with you on the Florida holiday thing. It's been a while since everyone has been down here. But I'm afraid I might miss the snow(Skiing!) now and then.
Actually - I do enjoy heading for some cold weather and I wouldn't want to do any family gatherings in the summer here - so maybe family holidays here every other time...or something....
