I look Ridiculous
OK So I haven't blogged in a while. Sorry about that. In my defense, alot has happened since the last time I blogged and I haven't had the time to get on it.
So I have a job now. It's a great job. Far better than I probably deserve at my current point in the whole job market, etc. In any case, I have it and I'm going to do my best at it. However. While at the job, I look ridiculous. RIDICULOUS!
Now in this picture, the people pictured actually look somewhat ok. Maybe. But that vest the guy is wearing is what I get to wear every day, all day. It's not that big of a deal really. I guess I'm just poking fun at myself. I really don't care that much. Of course I haven't had the pleasure of unloading a truck yet...once that happens I'm sure I'll have some rather unpleasant thoughts about the dress code. And the fact of it is, no matter how stupid I may look I kind of tell myself I look good. It makes you forget how embarrassed you should feel. I'm sure soon I'll fall into some sense of complacency about it and get to the point where I couldn't care less how silly I look in my little grey vest. Just buy my store's product and get on about your business, please, sir/ma'am. Etc.Classes are ok. I took a test today for my Western Civ class. I'm pretty sure I only missed two of the forty questions. So that's not bad. Tomorrow I have my American History Class. My professor for that class is officially clinically insane. I say officially because I am, of course, an official on all things medicine. At least for today. OK, so I might not be a doctor but I can sure fill out some prescriptions! I did that today...yesterday too. I picked it up pretty quick I think, quick enough to keep up the pace when it got really busy. But I digress.
So this American History professor....she wants us to write a paper on 3 different books in one semester. I think I already discussed this before but I'm going over it again since there is new pertinent information to consider. The first book is entitled American Genesis. Notice the superior knowledge of the English language I convey by not remembering the correct way to type a book's title(italics, underline, etc.) Anyways, it's written by an Alden T. Vaughan. Published back in who know's when. It's supposed to be a biography(possibly a republished autobiography) of Captain John Smith. He's the guy who founded Virginia way back in the colonial days. Anyways.
So no one could find this book. Not a soul. The prof says she had Barnes & Noble order the book for her and they should be holding it for us. Well I called then at that time and they didn't have it and I left my number with them so they could call me when it came in. I never got the call. Over the course of the next couple weeks, several students--nearly the entire class--mentioned that they could not get the book anywhere. At least not before the paper is due(tomorrow.) So on the 18th, she sends out an email stating Barnes & Noble have the book. So yesterday after work, I drive up there and pick it up. I may have wasted $20.00.
This is the worst read I have ever come across. It is incredibly boring. You have to strain your brain to even come close to a hint of interest. I'm not sure how she expects this out of us on such a short, SHORT timeline. Considering most of us have two days to write it. Not to mention all of us have jobs and other classes to contend with. Afterall, this is why we are taking night classes. Which are only give once a week, I might add. That's another thing. She just decides to not come to class one week. Sends out an email saying she won't be there. But guess what! Even though we aren't in class for the lectures, etc. She still expects us to fulfill her weekly quiz requirement. Which means on the following week we will have to do two quizzes and rely on ourselves to teach ourselves 50% of the required material. Maybe I'm missing something but the entire reason we go to college is to become educated by the educated. If we could educate ourselves we wouldn't be paying all this money.
OK so I guess I'm a little um...spirited on that topic. So I really don't like this lady. I'm not sure if I'm going to try to write a paper tonight. Since I know absolutely nothing about what's in the book. Although she did give us a topic for it and I think if I applied a good use of the table of contents(proper use!) I could jump around the book to points I needed and just use my imagination to fill in the rest. I guess I shouldn't say imagination.....how about um. My wealth of common knowledge gleaned from prior history classes. With that I can kind of conjecture how I would feel about the things in the book had I read it. Afterall, I don't have to read the book to write a paper on it do I? It's just recommended. OK, so I may get a lesser grade...but I think that's better than not writing anything at all and getting no grade at all. And that's definitely what the only other option would be since it's 9:40 PM and I have work in the morning and it would take me all night to read the entire book and write a paper.
OK that's the end of that little tangent. So here's the thing. I'm running out of things to write about. And motivation. I'm not going to let the blog die because sometimes when I get thoughts in my head I enjoy sitting down and writing it all out. So when you've run out of things to comment on, just add in something you'd like to hear about sometime. It'll give me some ideas for future posts.
That's all for now.
Oh! If you think about it go buy David Limbaugh's new book Bankrupt. I haven't read it but whichever one the conservative guy is on Hannity & Combs(sp) on Fox, he said it was good. I also saw Mr. Limbaugh on that same show and I got the feeling that it looked pretty good. But $27.95 is too much for me to spend on a book which I admittedly probably wouldn't take the time to read. I like politics but not enough to invest a weeks worth of reading.
OK, that's really all for now.
Ron
Additional:
I have since emailed the prof an email about this. Me and Robb got quite a laugh out of this tonight. I think I did a good job of getting my point across without putting myself in the academic doghouse. Enjoy
Dr. Middleton,
Just wanted to send you a note with regards to the paper required for tomorrow. I'm wondering if you could extend the deadline for turn in. I think there are a few reasons for this which are fairly legitimate. Primarily, I believe most of the class to include myself had significant trouble with acquiring a copy of the book. Back when you had originally ordered the book from Barnes & Noble I sort of relied completely on that as most internet resources either did not have the book available or would not have it available in time to compose a well written paper.
Most of us students are full time workers. I'm sure you realize this but it is important to note that we have a multitude of responsibilities along with our education which take up a great deal of our time. After receiving your email about the book being available two days ago, I drove up to Jensen and bought the book. I have since discovered that it is completely impossible for me to write a well written paper that would cover the topic you have requested and fulfill the length requirements.
I doubt I am in the minority when I suggest that the deadline be extended. However if this is not possible I will still turn in a paper to be graded but it will unfortunately have some shortcomings due to lack of time needed to prepare it.
Regards,
Ron Huff

I hope that email works, it would be frustrating.
Maybe you'll be like Rick, he could fill a paper with the biggest bunch of nonsense I'd ever read, do it at the last minute, fill up several pages and still get an "A," apparently the teachers loved that bunch of nonsense.
I'll have to come by and see you sometime when I'm out running errands.
I'll bet you look very professional in you gray vest. I'd love to see you. How about a picture of you?
It doesn't sound like your professor is real accomodating but she's probably not the first college prof that had that reputation. I do wish you well.
Love, Mother
Some things you could write about are your classes and interesting things or people there and also tell us more about your job - what you do, etc. Perhaps update us about your apartment or maybe you are doing some extra things that we would enjoy hearing about it. Have you started your culinary duties yet or are you still enjoying the perks at Robb's house. You do a good job writing and I enjoy reading what you post.
